Volunteer of the Month: Bonnie Boilson and Charm

Bonnie and Charm have lived in Windsor for 7 years and have volunteered at the library for one year in the library’s literacy program called PAWS. Every Monday after school, children come to the library to read to Charm. Bonnie says that it is the highlight of Charm’s week. “Charm gets so excited when I put her collar on to come to the library.” Bonnie believes that reading to dogs is so effective for helping kids improve their reading skills because the dog helps them to relax and enjoy reading without worrying about being corrected or judged.

Bonnie rescued Charm from the Weld County Humane Society about 5 years ago. Charm is a special mixed breed dog called a Mi-ki which is a mix between a Maltese, Papillon and Japanese Chin. Bonnie read that Mi-kis make perfect Therapy dogs. So she got Charm certified to be a therapy dog through Therapy Dogs Inc. and started volunteering at the library because Charm just loves kids!!

The staff at the library would like to thank Bonnie and Charm for the unique service they provide to the children at the Windsor-Severance Library.
