“Watts Up” at the Library

By Clearview Library District Staff

With the rising cost of energy are you considering trading in your old household appliances for more energy efficient ones? The “Watts Up” meter can help make your decision easier. The State Library Commission , in cooperation with Xcel Energy, has provided local libraries with meters for patron check out as part of Xcel’s Power Check Energy Meter Program. Check out the meter, check out the electricity use, and check out the savings.

The portable meters are simple to use and come with a detailed instruction book. Plug any household appliance into the meter and a display will instantly show the wattage consumption as well as the operating cost of the appliance. The meter may be used as a stand- alone product or patrons can download free software from the Xcel Energy website to use with the meters to determine the potential savings of replacing old appliances with more energy saving appliances.

Meters are available at the front circulation desk at the library for a three day checkout. For more information call the library at 686-5603.
