Carol Hirata’s photographic exhibit from her recent visit to the Galapagos Islands is now on display through April in the Blue Room Gallery at the Clearview Library at Windsor. The captivating images of animals, a few so rare that they live only on these islands, provide a view of wildlife seldom seen by most people. In this educational exhibit, viewers can learn more about the exotic animals including giant tortoises, marine iguanas, and blue-footed boobies.
Carol and her husband George spent four days visiting the islands off the west coast of South America in January. The photographic opportunities surprised Carol, not only with the numbers and varieties of wildlife, but also because the birds and animals were very accepting of people approaching them. The resulting images show the island’s inhabitants up close and personal.
“This trip was a dream of a lifetime,” states Carol as she thinks back to her start in photography. Her first camera, a “Brownie” that was given to her in the 1950’s, had her hooked on photography. She now works as a freelance photographer for the Windsor Beacon and also takes family and senior portraits.
The Clearview Library District’s Artist of the Month program features artists from northern Colorado. The gallery is open during library hours. For more information about this program, contact Beth Hager at 686-5603.
